Already thinking about next year’s accommodation?
It’s important you make the right decision, not a rushed decision. MYTH – “I have to sign-up for next year’s housing before Christmas or all the good housing will be gone.”
There are hundreds of good quality student homes in Birmingham. Choosing your accommodation shouldn’t be stressful, so slow down and think carefully about what you want. Don’t get pressured into signing agreements before you’ve had the chance to consider your options. The best time to find a house is January to April.
THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT YOUR HOUSEMATES
Do you really know your new friends well enough? Will they do the washing up and pay the rent on time? Will you still be friends with them in a year’s time? Once you’ve signed your tenancy agreement you’re stuck with them!
ARE YOU SURE YOU WILL NEED ACCOMMODATION NEXT YEAR?
Hopefully everything will be back to normal next year but is it worth signing a contract before you know how things will be? Unless there is a clause in the tenancy agreement that lets you out in certain circumstances, you’ll be stuck having to pay rent even if you change your mind and decide to commute.
HAVE YOU DONE YOUR RESEARCH?
Work out where you want to live and what you want to pay BEFORE you start booking viewings.
DO YOU KNOW WHO THE GOOD LANDLORDS AND LETTING AGENTS ARE?
BCUSU has its own letting agent and the Midland Landlord Accrediation Scheme has a list of accrediated landlords and agents.
