About Mixed Race Society

Potentially the first of its kind in the UK, the mixed-race students’ society at BCU aims to create a safe and open space for students of a mixed-race background. At the mixed-race students’ society, its members will be able to meet and socialise with other mixed-race individuals at our events. Our planned events and activities include:

  • Presentations by mixed-race activists and academics
  • Mixed-race awareness events
  • A reading & discussion group
  • Trips to mixed-race events in London
  •  Discussions and debates with other societies at BCU
  • Volunteering at local grass-roots organisations
  • Film nights
  • Theatre trips
  • And any other events and activities suggested by our members

We are looking for students to fill our committee positions, if you are interested in this, please click the email link below to let us know.

If you wish to get involved, you can sign up by logging in to the website, or email societies@bcu.ac.uk for more information.

We are Protected!

Our Society is a Protected Society, which means we never close down, are free to join and are funded by your Students' Union for our events and activities.

This is because we represent a key demographic of Birmingham City University, and are recognised by the National Union of Students as part of their Liberation Campaign.
