So what is Burlesque?
Burlesque is considered an art form within the dance community having been popularised during the 1940’s in New York. Burlesque is commonly associated with stripping however, it also has a more classy and tasteful approach to it. As part of the society you would learn the non-stripping aspects of this dance style which would include a sexy style of movement using a number of props such as chairs, ties and hats to a range of music, as well some tasteful elements of stripping down to whatever you are comfortable in! This is a fun experience for all! Our society is incredibly diverse, so no matter what shape, size, ethnicity, or even dance ability you are, it dosen't matter, we are all there for the same reason and accept anyone with open arms, so whether you have never danced before, or danced all your life you are welcome to come along!
BCU Burlesque is a society that aims to enrich your life through the art of burlesque dancing. We run weekly classes that enhance your confidence and sex appeal in a safe environment. We also run various drinking and non-drinking social activities to make friends and have fun!
Come have some fun, de-stress, get fit and sexy!
Please join our Facebook group, where we’ll post all our updates reguarly. We run 2 classes, on Monday nights, 7pm - 8pm and 80m - 9pm in the Curzon Building, Drama Studio, 4th Floor.
Please make sure you wear comfortable and flexible clothing. Suitable clothing would include leggings, shorts, joggers etc. This will ensure your movement is not restricted and your clothing does not tear. There is no pressure to wear heels or burlesque like clothing, however if you wish to, that is fine. Bringing a bottle of water will also be important and your membership card once you purchase one if you choose to do so, you’ll need your student card in order to gain access to the building. Make sure to come with a fun attitude and open mind and of course do not forget to bring your sexy self!
Your first two classes at BCU Burlesque are free! That’s right completely free! If you choose to continue on with BCU Burlesque after your first 2 classes, membership is £5 for the year for BCU students. Buy membership and you get a year of dance lessons for £5! Let’s face it you’ve probably spent more on a takeaway. Membership can be purchased online or at the student union from any of the BCU campuses.
So if you are interested or have any questions feel free to add yourself to our facebook group, this is where we’ll post all of our news and updates, you can also e-mail us via firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow us on twitter and Instagram @bcuburlesque!
