Are you a kitchen supervisor but would like an opportunity for a better work life balance such as no weekends, bank holidays and Christmas off? *

We are looking for an experienced supervisor to join our kitchen team in our student pub; the Eagle & Ball.  It’s a traditional pub in the City Centre Curzon Building, offering alcoholic drinks and catering with a menu of pizzas, quesadillas, salads and light bites (although there are seasonal variations and we have plans to extend the menu, in response to customer demand).  The pub is open during licensing hours (Monday – Friday) with the kitchen closing at 9pm.  During term time it’s a lively venue and we run frequent events and student nights.

You will be responsible for the preparation and delivery of the food, maintaining the high standards of quality in the kitchen.  In the absence of the kitchen manager, you will supervise the student staff kitchen assistants and ensure the kitchen adheres to the health & safety guidelines and maintaining stock levels and stock quality.

You’ll be joining a small but effective team and the requirement to be reliable and a willingness to help each other is essential.  Whilst your primary role is in the kitchen all BCUSU staff play a role in student engagement and participating in delivering the wider mission and vision of the Students’ Union is essential.  BCUSU is a positive employer, with strong staff engagement, supportive working environment and enhanced employee benefits.

*there are occasional weekends or rare bank holidays, when there are special functions, but they are the exception rather than the norm and time off in lieu will be offered if working a weekend/bank holiday day.  We are closed at Christmas.

Principle purpose of job

  • To supervise the kitchen to a high standard in the absence of the kitchen manager
  • To actively conform with Health & Safety Guidelines and HACCP
  • To maintain stock levels and stock quality
