I propose to introduce training, tools and support to be bought in across all discord servers, Facebook groups and other group chats to verify as far as possible their Student status, to protect ourselves from bot spam, pornographic content, or other malicious content, and to allow the BCU support and report tool to still be used effectively in incidents that take place online in society areas.
To do so, I have proposals for the following:
Society Discords should implement the BCU Verify Bot, created by CEBE student Edward Bullas, to allow them to easily verify their student status, prior to being able to engage with sharing photos videos or links in text channels, or be able to join open audio channels.
2) Committee should maintain their Facebook group membership, and ensure members provide student ID upon requesting access, to protect student members on Facebook.
3) For those using WhatsApp, they should not freely display the WhatsApp link online, but instead share it via Student email to ensure only verified members are able to access other students phone numbers or send malicious content.
4) Further training should be offered to society committees to help implement and embed further online safety for those engaging with their societies.
