Big Welcome 2025 – Join our interest list
Societies exist as a way to form community, arrange social activities and meet new people - but they need a committee to run them.
If this Society interests you, we'd love to hear from you! We're here to support you and to make sure your time in charge is as stress-free as possible; and it's a great thing to add to your CV to boost your employability after University.
If you'd like to take the plunge, send an email to societies@bcu.ac.uk and let us know which society you're interested in bringing back to life!
1. How many people do I need to start a society? You will need 4 separate people (3 extra people if you include yourself), to be the 4 core committee roles. These are: - President - Treasurer - Secretary - Participation & Inclusion Officer
2. Will I get funding to help my society grow? If you're not an academic or liberation society, you can gain funds through people buying society memberships, or any society can fundraise through stalls and ticketed events. We also have funding available to help struggling societies, but you do have to fill out an application form for this.
3. How can I get more members? You can attend SU events such as Welcome Fair and City South Social, if you miss any of these events, we run ad-hoc societies fairs, or you can book a stall to showcase your society whenever you choose! Posting on social media is also key, try to tag @yourbcusu in posts and stories and we'll do our best to repost them.
If you have any further queries, contact societies@bcu.ac.uk and a Coordinator will be in touch.
