What we're doing to tackle the cost of living crisis...
We know that students are feeling the pressure from increasing living expenses. This is leading to an impact on mental health, progression with studies, and your daily life. As your Officer team we believe that we can help by working with the University, supporting national campaigns, and ensuring students have access to further financial support. Our goal at BCUSU is to make sure you get the support you need during your time here.
We are pleased to announce that we recently signed the National Union of Students’ (NUS) open letter to the government. We feel it’s time for us to do something about this, which is why we are asking you to sign their petition too.

We are working with the University on a number of issues including abolishing library fines, longer access to university laptops and increasing employability opportunities. On all campuses we’re keen to increase accessibility to microwaves, fridges, and hot water.
Around 60% of you commute to campuses from across the region, so we have raised concerns about the cost of travel to National Express West Midlands. Our aim is for more discounted fares for students, and we will keep you updated with our progress.
We’re also investigating setting up free pizza events, activities on campus, and aiming for our Campus Shops and outlets such as the Eagle & Ball and The Social Kitchen to keep prices as low as possible.
Your Students’ Union will continue to raise awareness about the rise in energy bills working with our Advice Team. Keep an eye on our website and social media for key information and advice.
We want to hear from you. We campaign on your behalf, so please send us your ideas, comments, or suggestions. You can contact your Officers directly, or log an idea on our Ideas Board.
