What is a Peer Navigator?

Peer Navigators are student staff employed to support first year students with their transition into university life. Typically they host weekly support sessions for first year undergraduate students on their course.

What experience do I need?

Strong organisation and communication skills will be key to this role. You will need to have a proven experience in a supervising or coordinating role and a knowledge of current sector trends and best practices in peer learning or student support.

Full role training and on-the-job support will be provided by BCUSU and BCU. This role would be perfect for a recent BCU graduate.

What will I need to do?

Your role will be to supervise and support our student Peer Navigators, along with the two Project Leads, Course Leaders and Life Coaches. You will administrate the scheme, including signing off timesheets, completing right to work checks, and other duties outlined by BCUSU's Outreach Manager and Head of Engagement.

You will also prepare Peer Navigators for their role by delivering training and ongoing supervision and support.

Why should I apply?

This is a great opportunity to significantly impact students’ experience starting at university by supporting Peer Navigators to run sessions for them.

You will gain valuable experience in organising and supporting student staff members. You will also gain strong experience in communication skills by working with various stakeholders.

You will also receive training and ongoing support to help you do this role effectively.

Who are we looking for?

  • Well organised and has a good level of attention to detail
  • Has good, clear communication skills and is able to work effectively with different people
