The illegitimate, mixed-race daughter (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) of a British admiral plays an important role in the campaign to abolish slavery in England. The award-winning film recieved critical acclaim upon its release, and paints a stark portrait of the abolitionist movement in 18th Century England.
