LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD

My Goals

Everyone has a voice. But not everyone is heard.  Everyone has a voice but not everyone can speak in the way they want to. Everyone has a voice but sometimes it seems that not everyone is given the right to use it.

Our voices, our thoughts, are powerful, and it's not just leaders of countries and world alliances that can use their voices to make the change that they want to see. You and I, we have voices. We have the same power. We can make change we want to see. And that starts with our community right here at BCU.

This role is all about empowering students to understand that they don’t just have to take what they see. It is about empowering students to know what they feel, their opinions, it all matters and they have the power to make whatever they want become reality.

Issues at the top of my list to be tackled include :

  1. Familiarizing students with and encouraging students to interact with School Representatives and Student Academic Leaders. Many students don’t know who their Student Academic Leaders and much more what they do, getting students familiar with these representatives, will facilitate dialogue about satisfaction/ dissatisfaction with course, problems they are facing and improvements that can be made.
  2. Familiarizing students with grievance procedures and the alternate ways they can go about making their concerns known and have action taken.
  3. Refining and promoting the ‘Your Ideas’ Platform so that students know and understand they have a sounding board for major ideas they have. I would like them to know there is a space where they can go to present their ideas and physically see the support from other students. I would like them to know that the Executive Members of the SU will take interest in their ideas and suggestions.

My Experience

As Youth Society Leader, - a position I held for over 3 years- Representing and advocating for the interests and benefit of my peers has become second nature to me. In this role I was entrusted with the thoughts and opinions of the youth, and I acted as the middleman; the messenger and advocate for the community of I was a part of. For 3 years I ensured they were duly heard, taken into consideration and the concerns raised were acted upon.

Why you should vote for me

I have spent the last two years as a student facing many of the same challenges many of you have. I understand the frustrations we face and I understand wanted to feel heard. There are many positive changes that can be made and I am here to say I’m right there with you. My promise is, if you vote for me, I will work to get you heard and I will do as much as is humanely possibly to reflect the changes you know will make  better Birmingham City University and Student Union for yourself, your peers and the generations to come after you.

It's just time to let your voice be heard.
