Academic effectiveness Mentor
To Thrive in Global Environment
MY TOP 3 GOALS
Hi there, my name is Jay Ashishkumar Dave (He/Him). I am running for VP Academic Experience for the current SU elections 21/22. Since my childhood, my school taught me, “A will, will find a way “and I have been finding many ways for my will power to increase the number of changes in my life and my surroundings. To bring changes in our university’s Union and polish its wonderful Academic development for ages, here are some of my points which I would like to focus on if I get elected.
- When students arrive to city for their studies, their first struggle is finding an accommodation and opening a bank account... There are loads of frauds which many people are trapped into… finding a part time job is another concern for them. There would be so many other problems a student faces which affects their mental health, and one feels homesick within the first month of arriving in the country (if an international). This all leads to have a bad influence on their academia. I will work hard to Increase Practical Surveys for International Students (focusing on the above problems and have language workshops with travel and Visa aid., etc.). I would personally organise some socials, both online and in person (Post-covid19) as possible to interact with students and make sure they have all their queries cleared. I may even give my personal time for both international/home students for a stable mindset and have a stress-free semester.
- I ensure to increase the Involvement of Students with the SU and enlighten their university life. Because of the pandemic, I would make sure that BCU is accessible to the current students and disadvantaged backgrounds continue to succeed in their curriculum. I will work with university to establish recording their all-in class lectures as well so are well accessible and uploaded on the moodle for further use.
- I would like to safeguard an inclusive educational atmosphere that prepares students to succeed in a global environment with many different cultures. Including school reps and trying to bring alumni students to guide the current students with their career goals. Student concerns would be placed at forefront of our policies. This would include the role of student representatives and student successor advisers to continuously support and work for their fellow students.
My Experience
Coming to the UK as a 17 y/o international student from India, Started my University career from BCUIC. BCUIC taught me how to evolve and become more mature in my life. I was a Student Rep/Student Academic Leader (SAL) in the first two semesters of my UK career. University changed my easy-going nature to an open-minded person who takes on new opportunities and accepts the challenges. I used to attend many College Enhancement Team Meetings and help all the international students regarding enrolments and starting a new life in the country. BCU also recognised me as an eligible competitor for Team BCU Awards and Extra mile Awards two consecutive years. I was the finalist for both awards last year. With a lot of marketing experience, I used to handle social handles/ emails for various societies of the SU. Being a president of two societies (one Academic and one Protected).
WHY SHOULD YOU VOTE ME!
We do not have our UNION by the MAJORITY, we have our UNION by the majority who participates. And to participate, one needs to find a deserving candidate. I am studying 2nd year BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering at the Millennium Point. I have had a wonderful journey of almost 3 years (including 1 year in college) in BCU and looking for more amazing years ahead. I have been volunteering and attending almost every cultural event and taking part in them actively. As a Student Academic Leader, me with my Team have conducted many surveys plus meetings with the staff members which can help in improving the on and off campus academic experience. I have a vast network of friends from different campuses of BCU and have eye on every other problem student faces in their respective faculty.
A Vote Could Bring A Change...
Vote Jay Dave for VP Academic Experience.
Thank you
