ASHWEEN KAUR

You deserve to be heard.

Ashween's 3 Key Objectives

  • To improve representation system.
  • To ensure ideas board is inclusive and diverse.
  • To make student voices empowered, embedded and engaged at university bodies.

I’m Ashween Kaur, student of International MBA. I am standing for this position because I believe I can connect with student’s issues more as I myself had faced them recently. If elected, I will ensure representations structures will allow all students to have their feedback listened to and acted upon.

I am a course rep and I am already a part of representation system where I am presenting 150-180 students from different countries/religions. I represented the international students voice with Ms. Disha Gupta, Head of Operations and Recruitment. I discussed the difficulties faced by international students, the variations in educational systems. I grabbed this chance with my friends to start a new society, the Punjabi Society to represent punjabi culture, where everyone is welcome regardless of caste, creed, colour, or religion. I oversee all social media-related initiatives for Punjabi society as the Social Media Officer. Some of you may have seen me host Meet and Greet, January 2023. I participated and raised my voice in the public meeting with Birmingham city council and West Midlands Police for international students. I raised the issue of expensive accommodations for students and less working hours given to students as some international students are being exploited that is why they are more likely to be victims of cyber crime. As a society member and a course rep I have also attended student member meeting to represent my course.

The Student Union emphasises student voices at university bodies as a key component of student voice. Because I serve as my society's social media officer, I represent its members on social media accounts by promoting a variety of activities. I will create a secure and friendly environment for students. I'll make sure that I use ideas board to offer students' thoughts a voice.
