A Massive BCUSU Welcome To You!

Birmingham City University Students’ Union is YOUR Students’ Union, and we’re here to make sure you have the best possible experience at university! We exist to represent you and enhance your time here in Birmingham, by providing a variety of services and activities to ensure you not only have a fantastic time during your studies, but that you leave with the skills and experience so that you can get your dream job.

We’ve put together a programme of talks, activities, nights out and trips to help you settle in to university life during your first two weeks. Make sure you check this website regularly as it will be your up to date guide to what’s on, what you need to know and where you need to be.

To ensure you keep up to date with all our news, both during your first few weeks and throughout your time here at BCU, make sure you opt in to receive all our news when you enrol. We really will make sure you have the best student experience possible!

What Are We All About?

You may not know much about what students’ unions actually do, so why not take a look at our short video, to get some idea of why BCUSU (your Students’ Union), exists. Don’t forget: as soon as you enrol, you’re part of our family!

NUS Extra

One essential item you’ll definitely need while you’re a student, is your NUS Extra card! For only £12, you enjoy savings throughout the year in high street shops, restaurants, theme parks, as well as online retailers. Students who already have the card believe they save an average of £154 per year, just by buying their NUS Extra card.

Can you afford not to have one? You’ll be able to buy one when you arrive at BCU, but there are usually large queues as they are really popular. Save yourself the queuing time and buy yours now, online at: NUS Extra

BCU's Big Welcome Team

When you arrive at university, some of the first people you will meet are members of our Welcome Team! Welcome Team are actual BCU students from the 2nd and 3rd year who all know what it feels like on your first day here.

You can’t miss any of them as they are dressed in our bright blue t-shirts, emblazoned with ‘Welcome Team’ on their backs. They will help you move into your accommodation (at University owned halls), answer any questions you may have, smile politely at your parents and families if they’re embarrassing you, and generally be their helpful selves as you settle in to BCU. You will also see them around your campus during the whole of BCU’s Big Welcome as they continue to direct you to where you need to be, settle your first day nerves or just give you a friendly hello and a wave. Please don’t forget that they have been new here too so they know exactly how you feel! There are no stupid questions, so ask them anything you need to, to help your first few weeks go as smoothly as possible.
