What makes a good idea?

Idea Appropriate (yes/no) Reason
Changes to the process for applying for the Financial Assistance Fund ✔️ Would require working with the relevant team to streamline a University process. Or could involve implementing a new process which may be a long-term project that required investment and resources
More breaks in engineering lab sessions ❌ This is a course specific idea, which would be best resolved by contacting your Course Rep, who would then add it to the Feedback Hub
Request to have a counsellor with specific remits in University’s Mental Health & Wellbeing Team (such as a Grief counsellor) ✔️ Isn’t something which BCUSU have control over, as the team is managed by the University. This idea getting 930 votes would give our Officer Team a strong argument to give to the University for extra funding for this type of role
Requesting to rearrange their individual timetable ❌ This is a student’s individual academic issue, which would be handled by BCU's Student Support Centre. Our Advice Team could support if they’re struggling with handling the issue
Calling for more social spaces on campus ✔️ This is something that would require involvement from multiple areas across the University and funding. The University may require a high student backing (+930 votes) to invest in a project like this

    Teams lectures/online lectures

    Current
Think there should be teams or online lectures. Reduces disturbances when students enter and exit the room, also will reduce technical issues in the classroom such as projectors not working etc. This would be a great idea as u could allow students to attend by entering a password given on moodle or something similar to that which they then enter into teams or a similar platform, then 10-15 minutes after the lecture starts, close any other students who come in late. Could make the lectures online interactive so students are not just logging in and walking away from their screens, like having quizzes or polls on recaps of what was taught during the lecture which would show up on the live lecture so it’s more engaging. Also would assume that this would be good for lectures as teaching could if needed become a hybrid kind of role. There are so many distractions in the classroom with talking, people walking in and out and other issues so I feel this would eliminate these issues. Maybe this will prevent students coming in, scanning their cards for attendance and walking back out. We tend to lose concentration after around 20 minutes so sitting in a classroom with other distractions going on for 3-4 hours doesn’t help by the time u come out of the classroom you don’t remember what you was taught.
