Society Complaints

Submitting a complaint

Whilst we try to ensure that your time as part of a society is positive, we also know that sometimes things can go wrong.

BCUSU has a complaints procedure for members in our bylaws which explains the procedure for submitting your concerns about any area of the organisation - however the information on this page is society specific.

Take a look at the guidance below before submitting the form.

Informal Resolution

Where appropriate, we would recommend trying to solve your grievance informally in the first instance. Each committee whould have a Participation and Inclusion Officer, who's role includes ensuring all members are able to access the group and feel included and supported within it.

However, in reality that responsibility falls to all commttee members as leaders of the society - so approaching one of them and explaining where thigs are going wrong is often a good first step.

Formal Complaint

If the informal route doesn't work, or if you feel that it's not appropriate for the complaint you wish to raise, then you can more formally raise it to the Students' Union.

The first stage of the formal procedure should be booking a meeting with your coordinator. It may be that they can offer a simple resolution, which could involve speaking to the committee or moderating a conversation between the parties involved.

For more serious concerns, or where more informal routes have been exhausted, you can submit a written complaint using the form linked below.

Once submitted, the complaint will be passed to the relevant team manager for investigation. They will aim to speak to all parties concerned within ten working days and, if needed, will instigate a more thorough investigation.

Following the close of the investigation, the investigating manager will pass on their report to a disciplinary panel who will make the final decision on the validity of the complaint and, therefore, any suitable outcomes.
