Education Should Be Fun, Exciting and Enjoyable, Not Stressful!
Top Goals
- To improve system/structure of timetables/assignments
- To improve communication between students and academic staff
- To improve the academic experience for mature, international students and students living with disabilities and improve the attainment gap between the least deprived and the most deprived students at BCU
Hi fellow students,
I’m Leanna. I’m running for the Vice President Academic Experience role. I’m extremely passionate about speaking out for my fellow students and about the academic experiences at university, and the quality of courses in comparison to the fees being paid. I’ve spent the past year as a school rep and have been apart of a lot of discussions with students and staff members, and there is a lot of work needed to be done to make changes. Education is supposed to be a fun, exciting, and enjoyable time; learning and developing new skills and should not be stressful or impact your mental health. My goal is to create better communication channels between students and lecturers, improve the experience for mature and international students, and continue work around mental health and wellbeing to ensure that this is always seen as a priority.
My Experience
I started as a Course Rep for Fashion & Beauty Journalism, then Fashion Branding & Communications where I represented my course and ensured that students’ voices were heard at the school level. Later, I went on to become President of Enactus BCU, where I built a team and went on to compete in the national competition. Following that, I successfully got the School Rep role representing the School of Fashion at BCUSU, working closely with Course Reps to ensure our voices were being heard. Also, I’m the founder & Editor In Chief of FROW Magazine - Fashion, Beauty & lifestyle magazine. In 2020, I was honoured with the Highly Recommended BCU Enterprising Student of the Year award.
Why You Should Vote For Me?
I want you to vote for me because we deserve to be seen as a priority! Our education is important, how we are taught is important, how we are treated is important, communication between lecturers and students is important, the quality of the course is important and our mental health is important. I want to tackle issues with timetables, the breakdown in communication between lecturers and students, the structure around assignments set, work placements, digital poverty, and practical workshops.
