Coming back for 2017-18 season!
Our Table Tennis club is back as a BUCS team after a few years. Last time we entered a team was in 2014/2015 season, but due to the increased opportunities to get involved in the sport and the number of students showing some interest, the need to have a Table Tennis team was apparent! We are running a men’s team in the BUCS League with opportunities for women to take part too as part of the BUSS Individuals Championships. So please get involved and join us!
Training and Matches
From September to December, training will be based in City North Campus Attwood gym on Mondays 6-8pm. Matches will be played at Doug Ellis Sports Centre on Wednesday afternoons. From January onwards, the club will be based at the new sports hall in City South Campus with the same training times and matches on Wednesdays.
For the Table Tennis club to develop and grow, we have managed to get Helen Lower as the club’s coach. Helen is a Level 4 table tennis coach, a career she has developed after being a player herself (she represented England more than 100 times, winning 17 national Table Tennis titles!). Helen also competed at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 and Melbourne in 2006, as well as the European Championships in Eindhoven in 1998, where her team scooped a bronze medal.
To join the Table Tennis Club students will have to purchase a membership of £75 which allows you to compete in BUCS. This is a £10 Table Tennis membership with a £65 sports card which allows you entry to all the training, equipment, coaching, matches, transport to away games, insurance and the kit to play the games.
If you would like to help run the Sports Club for the next academic year, you can put yourself forward as a candidate during the Nominations Period.
When the polls open, all members will be able to vote for their preferred candidates.
If you are successfully elected onto the committee then you will be invited along to our TeamBCU Training event on Weds 15th May.
4 posts are up for election.
Nominations close at 23:59 on Thursday 25 April 2019 (in 6 days)
