Exams and deadlines can be stressful, that's why it's important that students are aware of the support that is available to them at university.

Here are 9 key tips to support your wellbeing over the assessment period:

1. Look after your Wellbeing before anything else

- Your mind works best when your body is cared for

- Prioritise sleep, hydration, and regular meals, this will give you the energy to revise properly

2. Break study into manageable chunks

- Use short, focused study blocks with breaks in between, this reduces burnout and keeps your brain fresh.

- Consider the Pomodoro technique efficient 25 minute sessions

3. Reach out if you’re struggling

- BCU’s new BASE Team (Building Academic Skills and Excellence) can help with with essay writing, structuring your coursework, critical analysis, presentations,, research skills, or assignment planning. Find support online or book a tutorial to speak with the team.

- BCU's Mental Health & Wellbeing are here to support, and BCUSU's Advice Team can with academic, financial, or housing issues.

4. Stay connected to your community

- Don’t isolate yourself during revision

- Study groups, peer circles, and society meet‑ups can boost motivation and reduce stress

5. Move your body

- A short walk, stretch, or breathing exercise can reset your mind and reduce anxiety

6. Set realistic goals

- You don’t need to do everything in one day

- Prioritise tasks and celebrate small wins

7. Don't compare yourself to others

- Everyone studies differently, focus on your own pace, not what others are doing

8. Create a Calm Study Environment

- Declutter your space, reduce noise, and keep essentials nearby.

- A peaceful environment supports a peaceful mind.

9. Be kind to yourself

- Exam and deadline season is demanding, so self‑compassion is essential.

- Progress is the goal, not perfection
