Disability History Month - find a society

BCUSU Disability History Month 2025

Disability History Month (20th November – 20th December) is a great time to get involved with a society...

University is more than just studying, it’s about finding your voice, building community, and standing up for what matters. If you are passionate about creating a campus that celebrates diversity, challenges discrimination, and uplifts every student, join a Liberation Society and be part of creating a more inclusive university for everyone.

All Liberation Societies are free to join, and is a great way to connect with and represent a community. Here are three which might be useful during Disability History Month:

Join the committee

All BCUSU societies are student-led, and currently we’re looking for students to become committee members to help this society run. This society has these vacancies:

  • President – leads the committee and advocates society members

  • Secretary – books meetings and helps promote the society to other members while keeping current members updated

  • Participation & Inclusion Officer -  suggests how to make meetings more accessible and gather feedback from members, while encouraging other students to join.

  • Treasurer – considers the finances of the society, applying for funding or creating fundraisers

Student voice matters and your contribution can make a real difference. Becoming a committee member allows you to plan events, advocate for accessibility, meet others, and more.

If you are interested becoming a Committee Member or would like to know more about the roles available, contact us at activitiesandrepresentation@bcu.ac.uk, or fill in the form below.

Liberation Council

This council is a platform for Liberation Society Committee members to amplify the voices of their members and address key issues affecting BCUSU, the University and our local community.

Our first Liberation Council meeting of the year was a great success, with members discussing important topics such as:

  • Future promotion of Liberation Societies

  • Improving access to gender-neutral toilets

  • Developing an anti-racist language campaign

  • Discussing activities, events, and campaigns for Disability History Month

It was amazing to see so many passionate students come together with shared goals and creative ideas for making BCU more inclusive. Join a committee to attend our Liberation Council
