Paper Recycling on Campus

Our university buildings have facilities for recycling plastic, metal and food waste recycling, as well as general waste, but do not provide for paper or card recycling. These are amongst the most commonly recycled materials, and are recycled by Birmingham City Council. Under a university-wide green policy, it seems counter-intuitive that there are no facilities for paper recycling. It is important that, as a university and students' union, we do our part for the environment, and I believe that paper recycling facilities should be provided on campus. Given the current number of places where recycling bins are stationed, it should not be cost-prohibitive to institute this policy. A positive environmental impact should be a priority for BCU and BCUSU in the twenty-first century.

Update on the progress of the Idea - After speaking with the BCU Environmental team, the university has launched a Waste & Resources Task Group. This task group will be used to share information and initiatives to staff and students about waste management and resource.
