In recognition of Swallowing Awareness Day on 18th March, we will be hosting a charity bake sale to raise awareness for eating, drinking, and swallowing (EDS) difficulties.
EDS difficulties — also known as dysphagia — is casued by a variety of conditions, such as stroke, neurological conditions (e.g., Parkinson's disease), or structural issues within the throat or oesophagus. As future speech and language therapists (SLTs), we will be working with patients to ensure that they can eat and drink safely and efficiently.
However, not many people outside of our field know that we work in this particular area.
Therefore, SALTSoc are hosting this bake sale with the aim of raising awareness of swallowing difficulties and to raise the profile of SLTs who work in this specialism.
All proceeds raised will be donated to the The Swallows and The Feeding Trust. The Swallows support head & neck cancer patients and their carers, whilst The Feeding Trust supports children with EDS difficulties and their families.
The bake sale will be hosted in the Seacole atrium (near Starbucks) on Monday 16th March from 10am-3pm.
There will also be some fun games and prizes to be won, so please come along!
