The development stripe is awarded to Student Groups who have made an effort to develop on previous years, dramatically increase membership, develop new ideas, provide different events and activities or made necessary changes to the operational side of the Student Group. The group will have been involved with union activities, built a good relationship with the DO team and created unity within Team BCU.

Development Stripe: Criteria

Attended committee training sessions and any other required sessions.* Submit name and dates of training attended. You will be invited to attend training in June (online). September (face-to-face) and January (face-to-face). These sessions are compulsory, you will also have the option to attend one-off training throughout the year. The training will outline what is expected of you in your role and help build, improve your skills. 
Produced a handover folder/file for next year’s committee.* Submit a copy of any handover documents that have been produced. A templated handover document can be found in the document hub under Student Group Leaders on BCUSU.com. A good handover is key to developing your club long term. It is important that you pass on all the information and knowledge that you have gained throughout the year so that the new committee know what they are doing and who to contact.
The group have an updated equipment inventory* (only compulsory if you group has equipment, if not pick one of your choice) Submit a copy of the groups inventory. Please contact your coordinator if you need to arrange storage. This ensure that all equipment is insured and any equipment that is faulty can be replaced.
Ran a democratic committee election online, held an AGM and ensured all minutes were available to members & the SU. Submit a copy of minutes and dates of your elections so we can check they were run online. Remember to contact your coordinator to arrange elections at least 3 weeks before you want them to open. It is important that your members and other students know that your group is being ran democratically.
Held at least two events per term. Submit any promotional material of your events. Don’t forget to contact your coordinator to discuss your events including room bookings, risk assessments and budget considerations. It is important that your group is actively engaging your members through various activities throughout the year, having an active calendar encourages students to continue to be members of your student group.
Achieved a least two of your aims/goals outlined in the baseline stripe. Provide evidence that demonstrates you are meeting your aims/goals. e.g. refer back to your baseline stripe criteria 2 to find out what your aims/goals were. Achieving your aims/goals demonstrates that your group is improving which benefits your members.
Promoted your group using Scratch Media or by holding promotional stalls/other. Written confirmation from Scratch group leaders of attendance, booking forms for stalls or any promotional material. Contact scratch media group leaders or the Media Group Coordinator at the union to find out how you can promote your group. If you want to book a stall, complete the booking form found in the document hub under Student Group Leaders on BCUSU.com. Promoting your group throughout the year engages students that didn’t have an opportunity to sign up during welcome week. It also enables you to promote the great work you are doing to the wider BCU community.
Supported another student group with an activity/event. Submit evidence of event and written confirmation from the other group leader of your groups involvement. Go to: www.bcusu.com/getinvolved/ Working in partnership with over student groups enables your members to meet other people and try new things.
Have up to date information on the union website about your group, with a news article/event upload at least once a term. Submit a screenshot of your website and information about events/new articles. You can find a helping hand document on in the document hub on how to edit your website, alternatively you can contact your coordinator for more information/training. Having up to date information allows potential new members to find out how they can get involved with your group.
Group have appointed a safety officer, a member has completed online first aid awareness course. Submit a copy of the certificate gained through the online training and how the group communicates safety information to its members. For information about online safety training contact your coordinator. It is important that all safety procedures are completed to ensure the safety of all your members.
committee members are registered with ‘stand out award’ and are actively recording their volunteer hours. Provide names of students who are registered and the union will confirm. To sign up to stand out go to: http://www.bcusu.com/getinvolved/standout/ Signing up to stand out allows you to demonstrate the work you have done as a volunteer, this will help you in the future when applying for jobs.
Gained continuous feedback from members to ensure that the committee/student group is meeting its members needs. Submit a copy of any questionnaires/feedback collected and how the group responded. Consider using online survey builders such as survey monkey or wufoo. In order to be a successful group, the committee need to be aware if the needs if their members.
Worked well with their appropriate Co-ordinator within Development & Opportunities when organising their group. Feedback from the Coordinator will be considered for this. The committee should send an email or arrange a meeting to introduce themselves. E.g. Sports Clubs will need to work closely with Student Group Administrator when organising their fixtures and booking officials and travel. It is important that committee members work closely with their coordinator to ensure the group functions properly.
