BCUSU is seeking a Deputy Manager to support our Area Hospitality Manager in overseeing all aspects of the Eagle & Ball, ensuring compliance with operational, legal and brand standards while achieving financial and performance objectives.

As Deputy Manager you will lead, develop and motivate the pub's staff team to deliver excellent customer service and operational standards.

You will promote and grow the Eagle & Ball brand through effective marketing, customer engagement and events, ensuring it remains relevant, profitable, and a valued part of what BCUSU offer students and beyond.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Area Hospitality Manager in managing all aspects of Eagle & Ball
  • Acting as on-site manager in their absence, ensuring smooth and compliant operation
  • Supporting financial management, stock control and performance objectives
  • Leading, developing and motivating staff, including supervisors, apprentices and casual student staff
  • Ensuring the highest standards of customer service and operational delivery
  • Supporting marketing, events and promotions to grow the Eagle & Ball brand and ensure it remains relevant and profitable

Who we're looking for...

This role would suit someone with:

  • Proven experience managing or supervising in a bar, pub, or licensed venue
  • Strong understanding of compliance (licensing law, food safety, health & safety, safeguarding)
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to resolve issues confidently
  • Financial awareness, including budgeting, stock control, and sales analysis
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • A team player with a proactive, creative and positive approach

A hospitality qualification is desirable, though not essential. You must be willing and eligible to obtain a Personal Licence if you don’t already hold one.

 

Hours

Full time, 35 hours per week, Monday–Saturday (flexibility required for events)

 

Salary

£28,318 - £30,768
