1992.

Rodney King is involved in a police brutality case.  After all five officers were acquitted of assault, riots in the name of equality and justice started in L.A.

2005

Mohamed Nasheed is arrested in the Maldives for speaking out against the countries President.  Civil unrest and riots broke out in the name of freedom of speech.

2009

Rumors of a military coup started emerging in Thailand.  Peaceful protests lead to riots throughout the country.  They stood up for their right to democracy.

2011

A peaceful protest happens after issues occur around the shooting of Mark Duggan.  Riots start in the city of London on a scale unseen for years.

Riots then occur in Birmingham.  Rioters loot shops stealing anything they can get their hands on.  Vandalism and damage occurs across the city in no real pattern with no motive.  When questioned, some youths blamed taxes, others blamed the recession, most blamed the police.  These people fought for their alleged right to free trainers. 

I could talk about what has occurred over the past week here all day but I wont.  There is already enough rumor and fear in the air.  An official statement from my self on behalf of the Union can be found on the Union website.

I will say one last thing that I firmly believe in.  There is never a need to physically fight for something until we are fighting for democracy itself.  I hope these people never have to fight for something they truly believe is a human right because they’ve just lost their chance.    

A new pair of trainers will last the average youth six months.  The damage done to our city over the past week will affect us for years.  Fact.
