Calling all Part Time Students!

Do you want to have a voice in the decisions affecting your and your fellow students’ education? Do you want to ensure that student concerns, views and opinions are heard and acted upon by the University? Are you looking for something to really impress potential employers with in the future?

We are looking for two part-time students to take up positions on University Senate.  Senate is one of the very highest decision making bodies within the entire University, responsible for all things academic, from the way your course is structured to the way the University responds to student complaints.

As a rep on Senate you will be in an excellent position to make a real impact and get actively involved in the decisions made about your education.  It’s a great way of increasing the quality and standards within the University and can benefit you, your peers and future students. On a more personal note the experience can be used as an opportunity to gain important skills, such as assertiveness, negotiation, communication and public speaking.  These skills are transferable and you’ll find that they will look excellent on your CV.

There are approximately six meetings of Senate over the course of the academic year. As well as the meetings themselves, you will be expected to attend briefings and de-briefings with the Students’ Union, who will also provide you with full support and any required training. In return, the Union will cover any transport costs for you to attend the meetings, provide you with a certificate on successful attendance at meetings and will offer a range of special offers and activities throughout the year.

Interested? We are currently seeking initial expressions of interest from Part Time Students in all faculties.

Please fill in the nomination form and email to Jema Davis, Representation and Democracy Manager, at jema.davis@bcu.ac.uk no later than 5pm on Monday 15th November 2010.
