This page contains more detail about how the Student Representation Scheme at Birmingham City University is structured and the different roles played by Reps, the Union and the University.
The diagram below shows how student representation is structured across the whole University. This means that students are able to have their voices heard at every level of the University; through Course Reps at a course level, through Faculty Reps in each of the six faculties and through the Student Union's elected officers at the whole University level.

Students can pass their feedback up to Course Reps, who will then be able to feed that across to course staff through regular Board of Studies meetings and other mechanisms. Course Reps can also pass important issues up to Faculty Reps, who can make sure the whole faculty is aware of the issue and can take action through Faculty Board meetings. In turn, Faculty Reps can let the Union's Officers know about issues, giving the Union the opportunity to raise them with the University's senior staff. This also works in reverse, allowing the Union's Officers to communicate important changes at the University level down through Faculty Reps and Course Reps.
On the other side of the diagram, University staff use a similar structure to ensure that important information is passed up and down between courses, faculties and the University as a whole.
At the Course Level
Most of our Reps work at the course level. The diagram belo0w shows the way feedback should be passed on from students to Course Reps, raised with staff at a Board of Studies or similar forum and then passed back to students via the same Course Reps, effectively closing the feedback loop. The Students' Union is there to support this process, and in particular work with Course Reps to help them fulfil their role.
