Academic Manifesto

12 points to improve your course - all chosen by you!

We asked over 1,000 students about improvements on their course that they would like the Union to campaign for. The result was the Academic Manifesto. The Union has been campaigning to get the improvements implemented, with considerable success!

1. Electronic Submission

Electronic submission of assessed work should be available for all students where practical.

2. Exam Feedback

All students should know they can request feedback on exams – and receive it in a timely manner.

3. Receipt of Feedback

Students should be told when they can expect feedback on assessments and then receive it on that date.

6. Timetables

All students should receive timetables for the next term or semester at least three weeks in advance.

5. Feedback Content

All feedback should help students know what to do to improve in the future.

4. Typed Feedback

All written feedback on assessment should be typed.

7. Contact Time

All students should receive at least one more hour contact time a week, up to 15 hours.

8. Personal Tutors

All students should have access to a personal tutor throughout their time at university.

9. Email Addresses

All courses must ensure that all emails are sent to the student’s University email address.

12. Learning Resources

Each faculty should develop a plan for improving student satisfaction with learning resources.

11. Class Cancellations

Students should be notified of any class cancellations by text.

10. Communications Protocol

All courses should follow an agreed communications protocol across the University.
