NUS National Student Walkout
Defend Education: Stop Cuts, Fees and Privatisation!
Wednesday 14th March
The National Union of Students (NUS) has called a national student walkout on Wednesday 14th March. Students across Britain will be walking out of class to protest at government attacks on education. Join in!
-
- WALKOUT OF CLASS AT 10:45 AM WHEN YOU HEAR THE CLAXON!
-
- PROTEST ON CITY NORTH CAMPUS AT 11AM!
-
- PROTEST IN VICTORIA SQUARE (CITY CENTRE) AT 1PM!
-
REASONS TO TAKE PART:
-
1) Staff redundancies and shortages means bigger class sizes and less one-to-one support from overworked tutors!
-
2) Course closures – Housing has already been scrapped!
-
3) More extra course costs, especially for Art, Design and Fashion students, e.g. Materials / Final Year Shows!
-
4) 80% cuts to university teaching funding by the government. Business, Law and Social Science are some of the worst affected courses nationally!
-
5) Up to £9,000 fees for new students next year!
-
6) Privatisation of higher education. More and more private companies being brought in, who only care about making money and not about students’ education!
-
7) Public services cuts, e.g. in schools and colleges, mean it is harder for graduates to get jobs!
