Freshers Perspective:
Fresher Alex Thomas, recently elected as the President for 2012/13 shares his views on joining the club:
As a fresher at BCU, the hockey club gave me a quality chance to get involved with something interesting. Everyone I met was more than welcoming and it made for some really good nights out. The men’s hockey team are full of good guys, who have good banter but when it comes to game day, get stuck in and focus. I couldn’t recommend joining more, I haven’t looked back since and my hockey game has developed from playing with new people. All in all, it’s a great experience and gives you an opportunity to make some good friends when you’re starting out at university.
Food for thought:
The best thing about university is the social calender and those that are involved with sports teams come away from uni, having got the most out of it - FACT. No one does socials at uni on a par with the sports societies. Join us and get on board the #bcuhype now.
How we operate:
We are coached by former Pakistan international player Imran Yousaf, on a Monday evening from 7.30-9pm at the Doug Ellis Sports centre Astroturf. There is a pre session from 7 involving everyones favourite fitness!
Matches are played on a Wednesday afternoon, the team competes in the BUCS League and National Cup.
There is also a mixed trainig session with the Girls which takes place on the MUGA at hamstead halls of residence on a Friday 6.30-8pm.
After matches there is the oportunity for a social outing with the hockey players and players from the other sports and clubs of Birmingham City students' Union.
Joining the club:
No matter what level of ability you are, or even if you only want to train with us, get in contact we are interested and so should you at this cost.
Membership fee for the year: £45.
This includes BUCS membership, BCU sports card, sports insurance, training costs, pitch hire and qfter game food.
