The BCU Cricket Society is one of the largest growing sports clubs in the University. Over the years, the Society has witnessed a huge rise in members due to our great reputation as a cricketing University and the many social events we organise every year.
BCU Men's Cricket First XI finished Number 1 in the entire country last season in the University Performance Leagues having won every game convincingly and having walked the Midlands Conference 3A league. This year the squad steps up a level into Division 2 and with this step up in class we realise we must be ready for the challenge ahead.
The squad trains every wednesday at Edgbaston Cricket Club the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club and an International training facility where you will often train alongside the England Cricket Team. As well as training in the winter you will not be short for indoor cricket as we enter numerous amounts of indoor tournaments throughout the winter preparing you for the summer ahead.
When the summer begins, the cricket society gets into full flow playing regularly in the BUC'S league taking on other universities across the country as well as competing in the national cup competition. We also have plans to go on a Cricket Tour this year which will take place at the start of the season.
But our society is not just about playing cricket, it's all about meeting new people and socialising with students who share your same interests. Last year the Cricket Society played various other University societies in very competitive football games, we organised the Universities first ever Barn Dance at Bar 42 and we also represented the university in a beach cricket competition in Spain. These are just a few of the things our society got up to last year and this year is even going to be better!
We've began this year by being named "Team Of The Week" on Sky Sports 1's Cricket AM programme. The BCU Cricket boys were special guests in the studio as we performed our special Cricket War Dance "The Crakka" in front of the nation.
As you can see the Cricket Society is one of the most enjoyable and successful societies at the University on and off the pitch. We welcome all members, people who want to be part of a division winning cricket team and also social members who just want to have a good time, everybody is welcome.
