How do elections work?
Firstly, be there before 6pm to register your interest in a position. These ‘nominations’ will then close at 6:15pm and then the election will commence. Any nominations after 6:15pm WILL NOT be accepted.
The election will take place. Candidates for each position are required to give a speech as to why they are running for that position, convincing people they should vote for them. This will last no more than 1 minute and the candidate will be stopped if they run over their time. Speeches aren’t mandatory but please note that this will probably affect your chances of being elected
The voting will then take place via show of hands or by paper ballot. Candidates can also vote for themselves.
We will then go through the same process for all the positions. If some positions are still yet to be filled, there will be a by-election before the summer.
If you can’t make the election meeting, please register your interest for a position and write and send a speech to union.comms@bcu.ac.uk.
If you have any questions, please contact Kat Higgs, Communications Officer at union.comms@bcu.ac.uk.
