Become a Project Leader

Do you have ideas about how students can volunteer in the local community?

Fancy running your very own volunteering project? …….....Well read on!

Birmingham City Students' Union is looking for ambitious and enthusiastic students to become Project Leaders.

Project Leaders will be responsible for creating their own student-led volunteering project and taking the lead in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers and much more. But don’t think you will have to do it all by yourself as your Students’ Union will support you from start to finish making sure the project is a huge success.

The volunteering projects could be absolutely anything you feel passionately about that could benefit the community. Some examples of student-led projects could be teaching dance in schools; organising grocery runs for the elderly, encouraging students to take pride in their local area and loads more! Even if you only have a small idea of something that you think needs improving come and speak to your Students’ Union who would be more than willing to help you turn this idea in to a reality!

Your Students' Union has even researched some potential projects that you could become a Project Leader of. One of these projects is the READ Book Project where you will be responsible for coordinating the collection of old text books to be donated to schools in Tanzania. For more info about this project go to www.readinternational.org.uk or email lee.marsham@bcu.ac.uk This is a truly amazing opportunity to really make a difference to those less fortunate and also develop yourself personally and professionally.

Another potential project is ideally suited for students studying Law and is called Bars in Their Eyes. The project is based around students delivering a presentation to prisoners about employment law and how having a criminal record affects them when applying for future jobs. This project was started by a student in Nottingham and has been a huge success by being nominated for many awards including "Best New Student Pro Bono Activity" at the Attorney General's Awards.

Being a Project Leader would look absolutely amazing on your CV; just think about how much you will be able to tell a prospective employer about all the skills and experiences you have gained from being a Project Leader.
