Futsal – New club for 2017/2018
What is futsal?
Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided football game that is widely played across the world and is officially recognised by both UEFA and FIFA (The FA online). Although it is a sport on its own right, Futsal is also a great activity to improve your footballing skills and increase fitness levels. Due to the nature of roll-on roll-off substitution procedure of the game, Futsal is an inclusive sport as you can be in the game, take a rest and then go back in again. Since is the first year of entering a Futsal team to BUCS, the aim this year is to learn the game, grow the number of players involved in futsal and have a first taste of BUCS competition.
To make Futsal compatible with those who still want to play football, training is arrange on a different day to football training to give players flexibility to attend both if they wish. The men’s team will train on Thursday 7-9pm and the women’s team will train on Fridays 6-8pm at Doug Ellis Sports Centre.
To help with setting up the club and introduce the sport to students, two members of the BCU Sport team will be the lead coaches for the 2017-18 season. Gary McLean and Lorea Sarobe will coach the men’s and women’s futsal team respectively. Both Sports Development Officers have been involved in the game as players and coaches for over 5 years and are looking forward to sharing their experience with BCU students.
Futsal is played at the weekends as part of the BUCS competition. Women usually play on Saturdays and men play on Sundays. The home venue will be the Doug Ellis Sports Centre and away matches will be played in the designated venue set by the opposition.
To become part of the Futsal Club students will have to purchase a Futsal membership of £75. This is a £10 membership for Futsal, but £65 for our general sports card which includes all the training, equipment, coaching, matches, transport to away games, insurance and the kit to play the games.
