The Roaries take place every year to give recognition to societies, their committees, and members, as well as School Reps and Course Reps.

On Friday 28th April, we recognised the hardwork and accomplishments of Societies and Reps at BCUSU with a celebration at Parkside. We'd like to thank everyone who was able to attend, it was a fantastic evening and was great to see all of your faces before assessment deadlines approach.

Here's a look at the nominations and winners on the night...

Course Rep of the Year

ADM

  • Amelia Hewitt
  • Rhomayne Willis
  • Erin Armstrong
  • Priyadarsini Shanmugasundaramr

"Both Erin and Rhomayne have been exceptional course reps for BA ( Hons) Video Game Digital Art this year.

"They have identified the urgent problems within the course and have addressed the concerns of all students, looking at issues such as resources, assessment grading and EDI issues.

"Their combined voice has led to fundamental changes (for the betterment of the course)

"They are always polite and understanding of the pressures that staff face and they work well with the course leader. This is a really productive relationship and allows a good understanding across all areas of teaching and learning."

BLSS

  • Malhar Bhoiane
  • Korya Xhignesse
  • Deepika Agrawal
  • Sherin Ahmed
  • Georgia Smith

"Malhar has been a Course Rep since his first month in the university for International MBA. He has been actively collaborating with other course reps, the School Rep, SU and the course leader and tutors to address the issues of the students and be the bridge between the students and the management.

"He has worked hard through multiple problems to meet the needs of the students and proactively participated in a majority of the activities happening around the university including the student council meetings, feedback meetings, experience forums and other such engagement opportunities. He has great leadership qualities and is an amazing listener which enables his to understand the issues clearly and critically, summarise them to the main agenda and channelise them in a brief and apt context in front of the managing authorities to resolve them."

CEBE

  • Leonard Ting Zhie Rong
  • Harsha Vardhan Penumadu
  • Noumaan Ul Haq Syed
  • Sneha Baid

"Being the Course Rep to MSc Automotive engineering, Harsha was the go-to person for most of us whether it be an issue with the academics or an issue with the university. He is always welcoming and resolves almost of the queries the same day. I couldn't ask for a better person as the representative"

HELS

  • Eleanor Hope

"Ellie has worked incredibly hard this year at trying to make the course run more smoothly and having multiple meetings with course leads to express any concerns the cohort has been experiencing to try and lessen these concerns and make the course and learning more positive for the students."

School Rep of the Year

ADM

  • Aisha Jabeen
  • Amber Charlton
  • Kashfa Khalil Surme
  • Canaan Brown
  • Karol Kalogirou

"Amber improved facilities to allow accessible equipment for all students in the cost of living. She helped change the academic structure in viscom so dissertations are being reconsidered to help students who don’t speak English as their first language. She also improved tutor/student engagement by adding a range of tutor tutorials on the graphics course for students to get a variety of opinions."

BLSS

  • Pravjoth Gill
  • Rachael Mears
  • Hollie Dales
  • Lauren Thompson

"Rachael is always working to improve the feedback system within psychology and BLSS. She has been working to introduce placement and foundation year reps this year. As a result of meetings and feed, Rachael passed on exams made online in BLSS this year, which helped ease students' minds. Rachael has always been there to support the students and reps even if they're not on her course.

"Last year Rachael helped introduce a policy that assessments wouldn't be during Ramadan, this year she has made sure this policy has stayed in place. Rachael embraces all opportunities within the SU."
