We sat down with your VP Student Voice to talk about why you should use our Ideas Board

We sat down with your VP Student Voice, Kristina Patel, to talk about changes we’ve made to the Ideas Board and what you should do if you have an idea that can make change on campus...
BCUSU: Tell us about the Ideas Board...
Kristina: “'It's an online forum where BCU students can submit ideas for changes they would like to see. It's your chance to make real change, and with the new updates students can raise issues; suggest improvements; or share creative solutions for things they’d like to see on campus.
“Other students can interact with ideas by voting or leaving comments. The votes threshold for an idea to be actioned is 930 votes, around 3% of student population at BCU. When an idea hits 930, it will be reviewed and actioned by the relevant SU team or university staff.”
What’s your role with the Ideas Board?
“When you submit an idea, I bring it to Executive Committee, where me, your Officer Team, and BCUSU Senior Management, decide whether it is appropriate for the Board. If it is, I approve the idea and it will be visible for students to vote for. If it reaches 930 votes, as your elected Officer, I will work with the relevant SU staff, university departments, or student Reps to make it happen.
"Depending on the topic, this could involve meeting with course leaders, university support services, or campus management. I’ll keep the student updated on progress and ensure the task is allocated to the right people to turn the idea into reality"
Why should students vote for an idea?
“Voting helps highlight which ideas matter most to students. When you vote, you’re backing something you believe will make BCU better for everyone. It’s a quick way to show support, amplify your peers’ voices, and ensure that impactful ideas reach the SU or university teams for consideration.”
Why do you want to see ideas on the board?
“Because it reflects what students genuinely care about. I love to see students using this to share their voice and it deeply matters because every idea helps us understand your needs better, whether that’s wellbeing support, facilities, events, or academic experience.
“It’s inspiring to see students come together to create positive change, and the more engagement we have, the stronger our student voice becomes.”
