The deadline for 2010-11 projects has passed and successful projects have been informed. However, if you have a great idea and wish to discuss further opportunities for your project, get in touch with Luke Millard who would be happy to have a conversation with you!

Colleagues

I am pleased to launch the Student Academic Partners (SAP) scheme for 2010/11.

Once again, we will be working with our partners in the Students’ Union to offer up to 125 hours of funded student time for the development of joint student/staff projects.

Last year we supported over 30 projects based in all faculties and some central service departments.  The projects strove to improve the learning experience through the co-creation of curriculum and a variety of other collaborative educational activities.  Examples of projects can be found at the website and will be circulated in hard copy shortly.

Please follow this link for further details and an application form http://www.birminghamcitysu.com/saps/

The SAP scheme is seen as something unique within the HE sector and is now attracting national interest from the Higher Education Academy and the National Union of Students. The Higher Education Academy has identified the SAP scheme as one of its EQUIP projects for 2010-11(for more information on the EQUIP project, click here) and Aaron Porter, President of the NUS, has stated that:

“The projects you're working on, particularly Student Academic Partners, have real potential to engage and inspire individual students in addition to providing significant benefits for entire cohorts”.

If you want to discuss the scheme or a particular idea please contact any of the SAP team:

Rebecca Freeman Rebecca.freeman@bcu.ac.uk
Paul Chapman Paul.chapman@bcu.ac.uk
Stuart Brand Stuart.brand@bcu.ac.uk
Luke Millard Luke.millard@bcu.ac.uk

If you are struggling to find a Student Partner we do have two matchmaking sessions planned, details of which can be found here.

However, if you feel your project has particular impact in the University but cant find a Student and the dates are not convenient let please get in touch.

The closing date for applications is 22nd October 2010.

All applications must be submitted electronically to luke.millard@bcu.ac.uk

A cross-faculty panel will be convened to make decisions on which projects receive funding.  Project applicants will be informed by 5th November.

Many thanks for your time and we hope you are able to participate in this exciting scheme.
