Health & Safety

Please ensure all your activities (training, matches, social activities) are carried out with Health & Safety in mind!

Here are a few pointers to help you on you way-

Risk Assessment Forms - you must make sure that before each activity that takes place within your club or society, whether this be a training session or a meeting with your team mates in a classroom, a Risk Assessment Form must be completed for your surroundings. This must be handed/emailed to the Student Activities Deparment 24 hours before the activity takes place. We know it’s boring, but living in today ‘where there’s blame, there’s a claim’ society it’s vital to have a risk assessment. It will help to stop both the club and Students’ Union being sued – so it really is important!

We have created a guide to Risk Assessments which along with the form can be found here.

Mini-bus Passenger List - If a group of your members are taking part in an activity off campus and using a minibus or coach to get there, a Passenger List form must be filled in with names of all the members going in the minibus or coach. This is just incase if there is an accident; we know who should be on the minibus and can contact their next of kins if necessary. This must be completed and given/emailed tothe Student Activities Department before leaving for your trip. This may range from an organised match to having a social activity.

If Passenger List forms and Risk Assessments are not handed in the day before activities,  and people are found to be taking part without Sports Cards (sports teams only) your clubs or societies may be disciplined. This can progress from warnings to suspensions. So don't forget!

Sports Cards– it’s your responsibility to ensure that everyone who joins in each session has a valid Sports Card on them. This includes yourself! The Sports Card ensures that you are covered via the Students' Union insurance policy and also goes to contributing towards the cost of running all Sports Clubs.

Your clubs and societies are important to your University experience, having the correct paperwork in place makes your life easier as well as ours!

Cake Sales - These are a great way to raise funds for your Student Group but you need to ensure you follow some key principles for it to be safe. Take a look at our guidance to help you on the way and also an example of a Risk Assessment. If you need anymore help please don't hesitate to contact the Student Activities team.
