How do I apply for financial help?

If you are experiencing financial difficulties, you may be able to apply for assistance from the University's Student Services department.  You will need to complete a 'Student Finance Application Form' which areavailable from the Advice Centre, Student Services or your faculty office.

You can get help with completing the form from the Advice Centre or Student Services.  When you have completed it you should return it to Student Services. As long as you have provided all the relevant information you should expect to receive a decision within 4 weeks.

Can I get a short-term loan?

Short-term loans are available from Student Services for students whose main source of funding (e.g.- student loan or NHS bursary) has been delayed. You can get a short-term loan application form from Student Services.

You will need to complete the form, ask your bank to stamp it to confirm you have used your overdraft and provide proof you have applied for your funding. You should take the form to a Student Finance drop-in session click here for details.

Can I get free prescriptions/eye tests/dental treatment?

Help is available to people on low incomes to meet the cost of NHS treatment such as prescriptions and visits to the dentist. As a student you may be eligible to recieve this help, depending on your income. To apply you will need to complete form HC1, which is available from the Advice Centre and some doctor's surgeries and dental practices. You can also use this form to apply to claim back the cost of treatment you have already paid for. If your application is successful you will receive a HC2 certificate, which you should present when you are receiving treatment for which charges apply.
