The Students’ Union is running a series of online focus groups, looking at a number of aspects of the services we provide, the activities we offer and the way we represent you while you're a student here at Birmingham City University.
You don’t need to have any prior focus group experience and the discussion is entirely confidential. All you’ll need is a computer with a web browser in a quiet place and a broadband connection. All interaction is on-screen by text so no webcam is required. We’ll send more details nearer the time.
If you are selected you will be sent an email inviting you to attend one of the times you have indicated. You will need to follow the instructions in the email to confirm your attendance within 24hrs. No unconfirmed attendees will be admitted.
We are about to write a plan for the next few years and need your views.
The Big Students’ Union Plan
(we couldn’t think of a better name!)
Your views will ensure the Union is improved and changed to provide the best service for ALL Birmingham City University students.
Our aim is to provide a better University experience, development and support for students. The only way we can improve is through your feedback and understanding your needs.
So what now?
The first stage was to complete this short online survey.
This questionnaire is completely confidential and all personal data supplied will be treated in the strictest confidence by the Students' Union and Redbrick Media Group.
One student will randomly get drawn to win £250 cash!
Two other students will win £50 each.
What is it all about?
Every single student at Birmingham City University is automatically a member of the Students’ Union. We think it's really important that our members have a say in how the Union is run and what we do in the future. This includes our priorities, values, aims, etc.
We have a wide, diverse mix of students with different expectations of us and University Life. Understanding your views will help us gain a better understanding of your needs and what you want from your Union.
The first stage is to listen to what you have to say and start having conversations with groups of students.
We will then write a plan which will guide us in how we best use our resources to meet your needs. We only have limited resources so we will have to prioritise.
Finally we will check back with you that the plan is right.
Then we get to work!
How is it going to happen?
We are going to get as many people as we can to fill in the survey.
Then we are going to make sure the people who have completed the survey accurately reflect the different types of students we have at Birmingham City University.
The findings from this survey will help guide our discussion and conversations with groups of students in more depth through focus groups and World Café events. If you are interested in being part of a focus group email us at union.manager@bcu.ac.uk
We will also interview key people such as the Vice Chancellor, University Deans and Union Staff as to their thoughts.
We are also gathering information from other sources such as the University's Corporate Plan and NUS research.
Then the Sabbatical Officers, Trustees and Senior Managers of the Union will gather all this information, consider what is being said and develop a short plan.
This will be further developed with Managers and Officers producing operational plans in more detail which are budgeted for.
Once this has been achieved 'The Big Union Plan' will go to Student Council on 3rd May 2012 for discussion and approval.
Why should you care?
We need your feedback to ensure things are improved and changed to provide the best service for ALL students.
-
Is there something we are missing?
-
Has your experience been brilliant?
-
Could we have done something better?
-
Did we help you out in a time of need?
We aim to provide a better experience and more support for you and other students. But the only way we can improve is through your feedback. If you want a better Union and a better time at University we need you to share your thoughts on your priorities.
Even if you think the Students' Union has nothing to do with you, we need to hear your views; especially if you think the Students' Union has nothing to do with you!
So what now?
First, complete a very quick on-line survey.... All done!!!
Next, let us know if you wish to be part of a focus group or World Cafe event (free coffee!) by emailing us at
union.manager@bcu.ac.uk
Then, keep checking back to read about our progress and the plans as we develop them.
Finally, come to
Student Council on 3rd May to discuss and approve the plan.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
